Early Life

From the start, Steven didn’t just ask questions. He asked the kind that made adults pause. Why do people stay in relationships that hurt them? What makes a story unforgettable? Why do some voices shape history while others are erased?

As a child, he was drawn to books filled with myth, memory, and meaning. World history fascinated him, not just for what happened, but for what was missing. African legends and speculative visions of the future sparked his imagination, while human behavior and emotional truth held his attention like few other things could.

What began as quiet curiosity slowly became a compass that still guides him today.

That same mind, both analytical and imaginative, now shapes the work Steven brings into the world. Whether in psychology, storytelling, or cultural production, it circles back to one enduring question: how can people reclaim their stories and reimagine their place in the world?

Career

Steven is a psychologist and creative producer working at the intersection of mental wellbeing, intimacy, and culture. With a background in psychology and sexology, he brings psychological depth into public conversations around relationships, identity, and relational dynamics — appearing as expert in television and documentary formats, including Married at First Sight: Match or Mistake (RTL / Videoland) and the documentary series Sexotisch (Omroep ZWART).

Moving fluidly across disciplines, Steven translates intimate human experience into narrative, visual, and immersive forms. His work spans public media, interdisciplinary collaborations, and cultural productions that explore how stories shape personal and collective life.

As co-founder of the First Noble Institute, he co-created the graphic novel universe Rise of the Mafu and helped develop immersive storytelling formats, including virtual reality experiences rooted in Afrofuturist worldbuilding. Within these productions, he shaped the narrative and psychological architecture, translating themes of identity, power, and memory into cultural form.

Alongside his public and creative work, Steven maintains a psychology practice where he works directly with individuals and couples. He previously served as lecturer at Inholland University of Applied Sciences, teaching psychology and facilitating dialogue on intimacy, identity, and social dynamics.

Today, his work continues to evolve through media and interdisciplinary collaborations, culminating in Unbound Voices — a platform exploring storytelling at the intersection of mental wellbeing and culture.

Psychologist

Anima Cura is Steven’s psychology practice, grounded in an integrative and narrative approach to mental wellbeing. Rather than isolating symptoms, the work explores how personal history, relational dynamics, and cultural context shape emotional patterns, inner conflicts, and the way people relate to themselves and others.

With a background in psychology and sexology, Steven works with individuals and couples facing a wide range of psychological and relational challenges — from intimacy and identity to stress, trauma, life transitions, and existential questions. His approach is systemic and, where relevant, transculturally informed. Alongside evidence-based psychological frameworks, he works with careful clinical intuition and integrative methods that support emotional awareness, embodiment, and relational clarity.

At the heart of Anima Cura lies a simple conviction: healing begins not by fixing what is broken, but by reconnecting with what has been silenced, fragmented, or misunderstood. Through open dialogue and thoughtful reflection, space is created for clarity, integration, and renewed agency — in intimate relationships, in demanding professional environments, and in the public roles people carry.

As a recurring expert on Married at First Sight – Match or Mistake (RTL/Videoland), Steven brings clarity, compassion, and science to one of the most intimate spaces in people’s lives: relationships.

In this hit reality series with a multi-million audience, he supports couples as a expert in sexology, intimacy, and emotional dynamics. With both psychological insight and grounded presence, Steven helps participants navigate complex relational challenges, from first impressions to lasting connection.

He has also appeared in the documentary series Sexotisch (Omroep ZWART), contributing psychological insight to broader cultural conversations around sexuality, identity, and representation.

MAFS Seasons 1 and 2 are now streaming on Videoland.

Unbound Voices

Unbound Voices is a platform founded by Steven at the intersection of storytelling, mental wellbeing, and culture. It is grounded in one conviction: narratives shape reality, and reclaiming them reshapes the future.

Through interdisciplinary projects and public dialogue, it explores how voice, identity, and imagination influence both personal healing and collective life. What begins as a platform is intended to grow into something larger — a shared space where cultural creation, social reflection, and generational dialogue meet.

The website will be launched soon.

First Noble

Steven co-founded the First Noble Institute & Studio, an interdisciplinary platform for Afrofuturist storytelling and cultural production. He co-developed projects including the His Story of the World series, the Rise of the Mafu graphic novel series, and immersive cultural experiences such as Shared History of the World.

The work developed during this period continues to shape his interdisciplinary practice.

Giving back

For Steven, contributing to community is a natural extension of his work. Alongside his professional and public roles, he remains committed to education, mentorship, and cultural initiatives that support young people, emerging creatives, and the next generation of thinkers and makers.

Through lectures, workshops, and collaborative projects, he encourages critical reflection, creative confidence, and a deeper connection to heritage and identity. His work across the Netherlands, the Caribbean, and the wider diaspora reflects an ongoing commitment to strengthening community, amplifying voices, and investing in future generations.

Steven is co-creator and creative producer of the His Story of the World universe, authored by Gerald Vreden. As a key narrative architect, he contributed to its world-building, character development, and thematic depth, shaping a speculative framework that explores history, identity, and power through an Afrofuturist lens.

His involvement extends beyond production. Elements of his own perspective and lived experience are woven into the narrative itself, and he appears within the story world as one of its core characters — blurring the line between creator and creation.

The universe is also deeply personal. It stands as a tribute to his late sister, whose strength, imagination, and memory continue to shape the emotional heart of the work. Through story, he preserves her presence and honors the bond that helped inspire the world itself.

With the release of Rise of the Mafu #1, now available in graphic form, the universe expands into a visually driven format that translates its mythic and psychological dimensions into sequential art.

“Three siblings. Ancient gods. An adventure of a lifetime to save the future — and the past.”
